I think we all know how bad it it for us to sit at our bench all day. I have a few techniques for managing my bad habit of sitting there for hours and hours at a time. These include keeping my soldering and buffing stations several steps away from my bench. The other thing I like to do is get on my bike and ride to the post office for my mail. Yesterday I did that very thing but midway I got caught in a major downpour.

Cloud Gate in Millenium Park

Of course a trip to Chicago would not be complete without a little mind bending trip to see Cloud Gate. We saw an exhibition of Anish Kapoor’s work in Sydney, Australia and we love the way that he plays with perception. Usually when I’m in Chicago it’s winter and it’s too cold to hang out in the park but this day was just perfect.

Hangin' with the big shots...at the Art Institute of Chicago

It’s always a great day when I can see a Rothko painting up close and in person! There was so much to see at the Art Institute that we had to narrow it down to the modern wing which is my favorite. If this painting doesn’t give you a little color inspiration I don’t know what will.

copper flowerI still have room in my fabrication class at Wild Acres in Western North Carolina.  Only $650 includes the workshop, room, and board, after school cocktails, and, if you like, a little field trip to my studio, Penland School of Craft, and to Crimson Laurel Gallery to see my current 2 person show – “Strange Offerings: Beyond the Garden Gate”  You can e-mail me at dkjewelry@msn.com for the registration form.   I promise a serene location in the Blue Ridge Mountains and plenty of laughs.  A good time will be had by all and you will leave with lots of new fabrication skills.
